So I looked up the word elegance and I found several meanings. A few of the meanings spoke about grace and style in appearance. Another spoke of being refined a type of simplicity. The definition that was close to my heart I found in Wikipedia which stated elegance is dignified grace in appearance, movement and behavior.

This definition gave me a variety of mind pictures that quickly flashed. In my mind's eye I saw pictures of little old ladies from my childhood all gussied up on Sunday with their hats, gloves and pretty painted smiles. I saw mothers loving their children, and fathers playing with their children poetry in motion indeed!

This definition was more in the mind of not just the outer beauty of the stylishly dressed person that is usually depicted. We all have witnessed grace and dignity when the most cruelest act against another has been displayed! We all have witnessed grace, power and courage when a person has been wrongfully treated, and that person injured extends an olive branch to the one who has lashed out. Elegance in it's truest form.

As I meditated on the word elegance I envisioned many mind pictures of actors, leaders, painters, poets, dancers, sports figures in all their glory. But in my mind's eye I also saw everyday people randomly doing simple elegant things. Such as elderly people holding hands and walking together ;teachers training young minds, tea time in the Sahara desert, firemen , nurses and doctors saving lives, graduates moving into their threshold of new beginnings a herd of horses running free.

Maybe these mind pictures are different from what you would consider elegant But take a little time out, and think about what pictures in your mind that translates elegance to you.
